Overview

An AI stylist for the piece you already own.

Style the Rest takes one piece of clothing, whether that is a shirt, trousers, a dress, a jacket, boots or a bag, and builds three complete outfits around it. Each look is styled by Claude and shown on a model, with a link to shop every piece you are missing.

Or skip the shopping: add what you already own to your closet, and it dresses you only from that. It is live at styletherest.com.

Challenge

Good outfits were the easy part. Trust, speed and the bill were the hard part.

The first version worked, but it had the problems every AI product runs into. Everyone shared one closet, so any visitor could see other people’s clothes. Each set of looks took around 30 seconds and arrived all at once. Reloading the page lost them, and generated photos vanished even though each one cost money to make.

And with clothing photos going to AI providers, UK GDPR expects a clear privacy page and a way for people to delete their data.

Solution

Private by default, quick to feel, and protected from bots.

Every browser now gets its own signed cookie, so its closet and saved looks belong to it alone. Signing in with Google or an emailed code moves them into an account that works on any device, and visitors can download or delete everything from the Privacy page.

Looks now appear one by one as they are ready, survive a refresh, and starred photos are kept. The Anthropic key never leaves the server, one Express function on Vercel handles the API, Supabase holds the data with Row Level Security, and an invisible Cloudflare Turnstile check guards the buttons that cost money.

Results

Live, free to try, with a paid tier.

Style the Rest is live at styletherest.com. It is free within daily limits, and Plus raises them for £4.99 a month or £39 a year, sold through Stripe or RevenueCat.

The public pages are pre-rendered so search engines can read them, and the app installs to a phone’s home screen.
